This album, much like The Lexicon of Love, NEVER gets old and still gets regular play in my house and car. Thanks, Martin. Keep these coming, I really enjoy them! 💘
A perfect album. Their best album cover.
I was at a record show last week and picked up a pristine copy of Kraftwerk's Tour de France. Love Kraftwerk, love ABC and love the the fact that Martin Fry is a Kraftwerk fan.
Martin it's wonderful seeing you your in my car playing the best of ABC wow ! I would say you have ocean blue eyes ,God bless ❤
a bold statement/counterpoint to what had gone before -- a kind of 'you think you know us? oh yeah? just hear this then!...' love this album -- it's all in a line of very creative sonic experiments by Martin & co-pilots for ABC
i love the music, sound and style of ABC.
Sing it Martin!! Lexicon was a helluva debut album.
This is fantastic stuff
Right up my alley! Agree with everything you said.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about Kraftwerk!! I will certainly look into this! I also really love your music so much! I think your version of “High and Dry” is gorgeous!! Your vocals are amazing. 🤩
Also reminds me of Laurie Anderson…O Superman.
Back in the 80s, after having heard some of their songs ("Das Model" and "Die Roboter"), I stumbled upon a music tape cassette of their 1975 Album "Radio Activity" (actually the english version). It was such a fascinating listening experience - I loved it. Sadly, I never managed to get hold of any other of their albums, living in a 400,000 souls city that could as well have been located somewhere on the dark side of the moon...
Your a class act Martin I remember buying the tears are not enough single when it first came out, been hooked since then Beauty stab is still my go to favourite album
:) Telephone call 12 inch bought in highschool. Lexicon of Love too :) tytyty
Martin, you are loved here in the United States, and it's great to see you!! ABC's music still sounds as sophisticated as it did when it was released. Best wishes from the USA!
Thank you for continuing to influence others with your music and your favorite albums. Best wishes to you with any sonic endeavors.
indeed a glorious and lovely fellow, much joy from his music i have
Mr. Fry is just glorious is he not!
The man the myth the legend.🤘😆🤘
One legend talking about other legends.
There’s Dare, New Gold Dream, The Hurting, Ocean Rain, Some Great Reward, Strange Times, Victorialand - all among my favorites. But, then there’s Beauty Stab - my absolute favorite albums of the 1980s. F***ing masterpiece!
Wow and I thought I was the only one that loved this album. Love that it's getting some attention all these years later!
Where is Mark White now? Does any one know? Is he on social media?
One of my favourite albums of all time.
"I've seen the future. I can't afford it"😅
I remember playing Love's a Dangerous Language over the phone to my best friend at school. I'd never heard anything like it. Totally different to Lexicon, perplexing at first and then utterly brilliant. As a melanchology teenager struggling with the loss of my mother, playing SOS on endless repeat still resonates with me today. I love this album.
I bought this album on vinyl when it first came out and still have it (along with Lexicon & Zillionaire). Loved it then; still listen to it now. Thanks to you, Mr Fry, my isolated teen years in small-town Australia were a little less melancholy and a little more magical.
_Beauty Stab_ was a bit of a shock at first when I heard it back in the day but it opened the door for ABC for further experiment into seventies pop, soul, house music on so on. "S.O.S" is still my favorite track from this... Still love it after all these years! Great documentary, thanks for posting!
For many years Beauty Stab has been my ringtone. Always remember it being used for the Montreaux rock festival
Beauty Stab was fantastic - I bet I Listened to it 100 times when it came out. Thanks Martin for all the great music over the years.
Class band, a fave from the 80's 👌 Good to see USA appreciate them too. 😎
Any chance for a Beauty Stab vinyl box set release?
I love the Beauty Stab album. Very different than Lexicon of Love, but just as good.
One of my favs and timeless for me.
Radical departure from Lexicon but grew to love it.
Their best album...I had it on cassette then cd and now vinyl! Superb.
'Lexicon Of Love' will always be the definitive ABC album. Would it have been wiser to release a L.O.L. II as the immediate followup (even if just to solidify their bonafides with the record execs?) Definitely yes, as that move likely paves the way for a smoother pivot to a ('Beauty Stab') concept album. That said, 'Beauty Stab' is a solid album. Glad to see it revisited by music critics. I recall the reviews weren't so much critical of the album, but more the direction and criticism of the band eschewing the glean of Lexicon. I will say I much prefer 'beauty Stab' versus 'How To Be A Millionaire'.
Always a big favorite of mine. Thank you Martin Fry!!! I treasure this record!!
Great Album , very underrated,I revisit it once in a while and Enjoy it every time , Saludos from Sunny Miami Florida 🌞🙌
Awesome video. Martin is king of suave
I haven't watched this yet, but I'm really happy it's been made. ABC's first three albums, for me, will always be gold. They are so different from eachother, but the risks being taken in those years with each album was something I loved. And Beauty Stab for me was as good as The Lexicon of Love. For completely different reasons. I will watch this now. I just wanted to say thank you for making it.
He was completely right to pivot fast. Still impressed that they had the courage to do this for a second LP.
Martin if your listening...many of us are unable to grab the Bluray release with the remasteres version of MANTRAP...please please can you upload even a small sample for us to enjoy......
Absolutely such an underated Album from ABC. The music, lyrics, there is so much here. I have always come back to this Album for what it is a well crafted Album full of wonderfully performed songs...it just stands on it's own. 180g Remaster Vinyl PLEASE
For me not as good as The Lexicon of Love or Zillionaire but I absolutely love it… 3 albums in my top bunch 💜
I remember buying the cassette version of Beauty Stab at Music Plus and noticed that although "The Power of Persuasion" was on the cassette, it was not on the liner notes or outside cover. Thank you, Mr. Fry, for deciding to include Andy Newmark and Alan Spenner on this album. By the way, I enjoyed the guitar work that Phil Manzanera did for the Abracadabra album. Best wishes to you.
Lexicon of Love and Beauty Stab are very recognisable as ABC yet are completely different albums, how did they manage that, and Thank Goodness they made it.
This too is one of my favourite albums of all time. Such a brave departure from Lexicon but the writing, playing and vox are all stunning with; a powerful production very different to, but yet like the first album so I just love it. Many fantistic lyrics too, an incredible masterpiece to follow up another masterpiece
So glad you did this
I always thought that "She's vegetarian except when it comes to sex" was one of the greatest rock lyrics ever.
